Biography contributed by Katherine Blakeley
Mary Owen Templeton was born about 1858 in Australia – the daughter of Thomas Templeton and Susanna McFie.
She emigrated to Otago in 1860 with her family on the Gil Blas and she married William Rendall, a farmer, on 17 August 1877 in the Waikouaiti parish.
They had four children and farmed in the Shag Valley.
William died in 1888 in Dunedin and when Mary signed the suffrage petition her occupation was listed in the electoral roll as farmer.
She later moved to South Otago - she died in Balclutha on 7 January 1951 and is buried with William in the Waikouaiti Cemetery.
