Margaret Aitchison was born about 1840 in Berwickshire, Scotland and, according to her obituary, she came to Otago about 1873 on the Peter Denny.
Margaret married Thomas John Rowe on 31 May 1876 in Dunedin and they had three children.
Thomas died in 1882 when their youngest child was one year old and when Margaret signed the suffrage petition she was living with her children in Cargill Rd, South Dunedin.
In her later years she lived for a time in Central Otago & Greymouth where she died on 2 June 1912.
She is buried in the Greymouth Cemetery.
