Matilda Samson was born in New Zealand in 1868 – the daughter of William Samson, a farmer, and Elizabeth Wilson. (See 87 E Samson)
When Matilda signed the suffrage petition she was living on the family farm in Wangaloa in South Otago.
She married Thomas Johnson, a farmer, on 21 August 1895 at Wangaloa and they had two children.
Thomas died at 'Rosebourne', Wangaloa in 1931 and Matilda died in Dunedin on 28 May 1942.
They are buried together in the Kaitangata Cemetery.
