Biography contributed by Katherine Blakeley

Margaret Adams was born about 1835 in Scotland.

She married carpenter James Samuel on 7 December 1855 in Leith, Edinburghshire and they had two children before they sailed for Otago in 1860 on the Pladda.

Their daughter Margaret died on the journey.

The family settled in Dunedin and had a further three children.

When Margaret signed the suffrage petition they were living in Andersons Bay.

James died in 1906 and Margaret died on 26 November 1915 – they are buried in the family grave in the Andersons Bay Cemetery.
