Biography contributed by Katherine Blakeley
Mary Ure was born on 22 February 1868 in Glasgow, Scotland – the daughter of Walter Ure, a clerk, and Rachel McLeod. (See 117 Rachel Ure)
Mary emigrated to New Zealand with her family about 1869 and when she signed the suffrage petition she was living with her family in Mailor St, Mornington, Dunedin working as a tailoress.
Mary did not marry and, in the 1900s after the death of her parents, she moved to Auckland where her brother and sister were also living.
She died on 3 May 1941 and is buried in the Hillsborough Cemetery.
