Biography contributed by Katherine Blakeley.

Mary Anne (Annie) Reid was born about 1852 in Aberdeen, Scotland, the daughter of Archibald Grant Reid, a baker, and Margaret Ada Morrison.

She went to Australia with her family in the 1850s then came to New Zealand in the early 1860s.

They lived at various places around the South Island before settling in Waikouaiti, where Mary married William Henderson Wallace, a carpenter, on November 5th 1874.

They had six children, and when Mary signed the suffrage petition they were living in MacLaggan St, Dunedin.

William died at their home in 1911, and Mary died on February 27th 1932 at her daughter’s home. They are buried together in the Southern Cemetery.
