Biography contributed by Katherine Blakeley

Mary Ann Faithfull was born in 1861 in Victoria, Australia – the daughter of Henry Faithfull, a labourer, and Hannah (Ann) McDermid/McDermott. In about 1862 the family moved to Dunedin and settled in Maitland St.

Mary Ann married George Herbert Winter, a telegraph employee, in 1885. They had five children. In about 1891 the family moved to Invercargill.

Mary Ann died on 12 February 1931 in Invercargill, and George died in 1938. They are buried together in the Invercargill Eastern Cemetery.
