Biography contributed by Katherine Blakeley

Mary Ann Reynolds was born on 7 January 1842 in Longford, Tasmania – the daughter of William Reynolds and Louisa Bishop.

In February 1854 Mary went, with her family, on a trip to London. When the family returned later that year the family name had changed to Randall.

They sailed for Otago in 1855 on the Macclesfield under the name Reynolds before permanently changing to Randall.

They lived in Port Chalmers, near Dunedin.

Mary Ann married George Alfred Wiseman in 1865. They had five children two who were born in Victoria, Australia before George died in 1877. He was 'jammed against a post by a railway truck' while at work on the Port Chalmers Railway Pier. He is buried with Mary’s parents in the Old Port Chalmers Cemetery.

A committee was formed to collect subscriptions for the destitute family.

When Mary signed the suffrage petition she was living with her family in Constitution St, Port Chalmers.

She died at her daughter’s home in Port Chalmers on 17 July 1914 and is buried in the family grave in the Port Chalmers Cemetery.

Her obituary said she 'worked hard, and brought up her family by her own industry. Mrs Wiseman was a lovable old lady, and by her death many feel they have lost a valued friend.'
