Biography contributed by Helen Edwards

Margaret Amelia Bare/Baré, born in Dunedin in 1871, was the daughter of Rachel and Robert Flamwell Bare, an advertising agent. She married William Milroy Beveridge, a Dunedin-born tram driver, in 1890. William was the son of Thomas, a tailor, and Jessie Beveridge. He was born in 1870 and spent his early years in Mornington. In 1893 they were living in Anderston Road, Roslyn, where William was a mechanical engineer. The eldest of their three children, Robert Thomas, born in 1893, served in Egypt and France in WW1. In 1916 the family was living 22 Edwin St, Caversham. Margaret died in Dunedin on 29 April 1923, aged 50. Her last address was 57 Passmore Crescent, Maori Hill. William was living in Green Island when he died in 1935, at the age of 64. They are buried together in Dunedin’s Northern Cemetery. Margaret also signed the 1892 Women’s Suffrage Petition Roll.
