Biography contributed by Katherine Blakeley

Fanny Margaret/Maggie McCoy was born about 1862.

She and her husband John Patrick McCoy/McKay had nine children and when Maggie signed the suffrage petition the family were living in Whitstone in North Otago.

In 1897 Maggie applied for a 'judicial separation' and for the 'custody of the children, payment of maintenance, and costs of the application.' John appeared at the hearing where he 'expressed his regret and attributed his difference with his wife to drink.' A 12 month prohibition order was issued.

John died in Dunedin in 1912 while visiting the town with his daughter and her family.

Maggie also died at Dunedin on 28 April 1920 – both Maggie and John are buried in the Southern Cemetery.
