Biography contributed by Katherine Blakeley

Margaret Wallace was born about 1850 in Aberdeen, Scotland.

She emigrated to New Zealand in the mid-1860s and she married John Ramsay, a wool sorter, on 1 August 1868 in Dunedin.

They had six children before John died in 1878.

Margaret re-married in 1880 to John Abbott, a storeman at the Union Steamship Company.

They had five children and when Margaret signed the suffrage petition the family were living in Serpentine Avenue.

Margaret died at her home on 4 November 1915 and John died in 1918 – they are buried with John Ramsay in the family grave in the Southern Cemetery.
