Biography contributed by Katherine Blakeley

Margaret Hall Henderon was born about 1837 in Colinton, Midlothian, Scotland – the daughter of William Henderson, a miller, and Janet Cochrane.

She married William Budge, a grocer, in Colinton on 21 July 1863 and they had two children.

William appears to have died in the 1870s and Margaret emigrated to Otago in about 1879 with her children and other members of her extended family.

Margaret lived in Lower York Place, Dunedin with her family and in the 1880s kept a boarding house. When she signed the suffrage petition she was still in Lower York Place living with her children, Janet and Henry – a marine engineer.

Margaret died on 19 November 1917 at the age of 80. She is buried with her daughter in the Andersons Bay Cemetery.
