Margaret Catherine Johnstone was born in 1868 in Milton – the daughter of Thomas Johnstone and Margaret Gray Duff. (See 104 Margaret Johnstone)
When she signed the suffrage petition Margaret was living with her family in Milton working as a dressmaker.
She married Alfred Westerman Marshall, a butcher, on 24 February 1898 in Milton.
They had four children and lived in Alexandra – when the gold dredging boom occurred Alfred changed occupations and worked on a dredge as well as planting out an orchard.
Alfred died in Dunedin Hospital in 1939 and Margaret died in 1955, they are buried in the Alexandra Cemetery.
