Margaret Jackson was born in 1865 in New Zealand – the daughter of James Jackson and Kate McDonald. (See 114 Kate Jackson)
She married John Challis, a bank clerk, on 15 October 1890 in Dunedin and they had three daughters.
When Margaret signed the suffrage petition the family were living on the Otago Peninsula.
John died in 1943, he was cremated and his ashes scattered.
Margaret died at her home on 22 March 1946, she was also cremated and her ashes were interred in the Jackson family grave in the Northern Cemetery.
