Margaret Elizabeth Murrow was born in Shepton Mallet, Somerset, in 1864. At the age of 10 she migrated to New Zealand with her parents and eight siblings on the Bebington, settling in Hawke's Bay, where her father worked as a painter.
Margaret married William Oscar Goldfinch in in 1886. They had ten children between 1886 and 1906.
William worked as a blacksmith, and the Goldsmith family lived on Havelock Road. They later moved into central Napier.
Margaret died in 1921 at the age of 57.
