Margaret McWha (McGuire?) was born in Glasgow about 1843, and arrived in New Zealand about 1856, according to her burial record. In 1890, she married Robert Gemmell, who had immigrated about 1861, possibly on the Silistria. Robert was a platelayer, who had bought his Forth Street (now Walton Street) property about 1879. The couple may have been childless. They were still living in Walton Street when Margaret died in 1918, and Robert in 1919, both at the age of 75. They are buried together in the Southern Cemetery, Dunedin.
