Margaret Dingwall Stewart was born about 1846.

She married John Gray, a stevedore, on 8 May 1873 at the Port Chalmers Anglican Church.

They had six children and, in the 1880’s, the family moved to Dunedin.

When Margaret signed the suffrage petition they were living in High Street running a boarding house.

Margaret died on 18 June 1910 and John died in 1918 – they are buried in the family grave in the Northern Cemetery.
