She emigrated to New Zealand and she married John Hanley, a farmer, in the 1860s.
They had 10 children and when Margaret signed the suffrage petition the family were living at Clarksville.
In 1918 'an enthusiastic send-off social' was held for the family at the Glenore Schoolhouse 'prior to their removal to Milton' – they were presented with a Morris chair each.
John died at their home in 1921 and Margaret died on 24 April 1928, they are buried together in the Fairfax Cemetery, Milton.
