Margaret was born in 1861 in Fermanagh, Ireland to William Foster and Isabella Corrigan. She married James Johnston in Enniskillen, Ireland in 1881. Their daughter Mabella was born around 1882.

Soon after, following her sister Elizabeth, Margaret, her husband and parents and siblings immigrated to New Zealand.

Margaret died in 1933 and is buried in Auckland.

The signature above hers, Isabella Foster, is her mother.
