Biographical information provided for the He Tohu exhibition:
Margaret Kebbell was living in Otaki when she signed the 1893 Petition. Several years earlier a Margaret Kebbell was a student at Wellington Girls High School. And by the looks of things she was a bit of wordsmith and a musician. She won the 1884 Form II Composition and Essay Writing Competition and in 1886 a prize for music.
The name Kebbell wasn’t all that common so it’s a bet this is the same person who, as a very young woman, put pen to paper for the right to vote.
