Biography contributed by Katherine Blakeley

Margaret Baylor was born about 1818 in Ireland.

She emigrated to Sydney, New South Wales in 1839 on the Susan accompanied by what seems to be her two sisters.

She appears to have married John Langmuir, a Scottish gardener, about 1840 but no record can be found.

They had a daughter in New South Wales in 1841 (See 41 Mrs Smyth) before they moved to Victoria where their next 5 children were born – one of these children died in infancy.

In 1863 the family sailed for Otago on the Ceylon – they lived in Caversham, Dunedin and grew vegetables and fruit.

John died in 1877 at their home 'Elm Bank' in Caversham and when Margaret signed the suffrage petition she was living with her daughter in Alexandra St, Caversham.

She died at her daughter’s home on 22 June 1894 and is buried with John in the Southern Cemetery.
