Biography contributed by Katherine Blakeley

Margaret Logan was born in 1871 in New Zealand – the daughter of Glasgow Logan, a farmer, and Martha Ann McDowell. (See 137 Martha Logan)

When she signed the suffrage petition she was living with her family at Owaka.

Margaret married William Chittock, a farmer, in July 1894, at her sister’s home in Gore. 'The bride was dressed in brown velvet, relieved with lace, with the orthodox veil and orange blossoms...A capital breakfast was provided, and a number of felicitous speeches were made, and proceedings concluded with an enjoyable dance in the evening'.

Margaret and William had a farm at East Gore and had nine children.

William died at their home in 1938 and Margaret died in Gore on 26 August 1960, they are buried in the family grave in the Gore Cemetery.
