Margaret was born about 1863 in Perthshire, Scotland.
She was married to David McFarlane and had several children.
When Margaret signed the suffrage petition she was a widow living in Nen St, Oamaru.
Margaret died on 19 May 1927 at Oamaru – she is buried in the Oamaru Cemetery.
