Margaret McKenzie was born in 1868 in New Zealand – the daughter of John McKenzie, a goldminer, and Jane. When she signed the suffrage petition Margaret was living with her parents in Dalry St, Mornington.
She married Peter Brand in 1897, the operator of the Golden Gate dredge at Millers Flat in Central Otago. They had four daughters and later lived in Gore where Peter died in 1944. He is buried in the Gore Cemetery.
Margaret’s date and place of death are unknown.
