Biography contributed by Katherine Blakeley

Margaret Brown was born about 1847 in Scotland.

She emigrated to Otago and she married Charles McPherson, a platelayer, on 8 December 1874 in Dunedin.

They had nine children, one who died in infancy, and when Margaret signed the suffrage petition the family were living in Romahapa in South Otago.

Charles died in Dunedin Hospital in 1916 and Margaret died at her daughter’s home at Houipapa on 11 July 1927, they are buried together in the Romahapa Cemetery.
