Biography contributed by Katherine Blakeley

Margaret Mullin was born on 19 October 1860 in Coola, Ireland – the daughter of John William Mullin, a doctor, and Deborah Shackleton.

Her mother died in 1866 and, in 1883, she emigrated to New Zealand with her father and three siblings as second saloon passengers on the Ionic.

The family settled in Dunedin.

Kate did not marry and when she signed the suffrage petition she was living with her father and sister Kate in George St. (See 53 Kate E Mullin)

Margaret’s activities after this are unclear, she may be the Margaret Mullin who died at Seacliff Hospital on 9 May 1937 and is buried in the Waitati Cemetery.
