Margaret McTainsh was born about 1860 in New Zealand – the daughter of Peter McTainsh, a farmer, and Alison Wilson.
She married John Scott, a farmer, in 1886 and they had six children.
When Margaret signed the suffrage petition the family were living in Broad Bay on the Otago Peninsula.
She died on 14 April 1938 at her home and John died in 1941, they are buried together in the Broad Bay Cemetery.
