Margaret Young Marshall was born in 1865 in New Zealand – the daughter of Robert Marshall and Margaret Millar.
She married James Bruce, a gardener, on 26 February 1890 and they had six children.
When Margaret signed the suffrage petition they were living in Leith Walk, North East Valley.
In 1907 the family moved to Nelson where James worked as an instructor in agriculture.
Margaret died on 23 September 1924 and James died in 1946 – they are buried together in the Wakapuaka Cemetery.
