Margaret Gillies was born about 1845 probably in Scotland.

She appears to have married James Hunter, a cabinet maker in the mid 1860’s before they emigrated to New Zealand.

They lived in Dunedin & had 7 children, one who died in infancy.

When Margaret signed the suffrage petition the family were living in Cumberland St, Dunedin.

She died on November 28th 1902 & James died in 1921, they are buried in the family grave in the Northern Cemetery.
