Biographical information provided by Briar Barry for the He Tohu exhibition:
Maria Hill was born on 3 April 1851 and was married to Charles Hill (Junior), a farmer in Wakanui, near Ashburton. Charles died in 1902, aged 58. Maria moved to Christchurch after she became a widow. Her son, George, was killed in the First World War. Maria died 9 July 1924.
