Maria Florence Hannah was born in Scotland about 1844 and arrived in New Zealand about 1865.

In 1871 Maria married James Donaldson, a tinsmith, they had two daughters.

In 1877 James and Maria gave evidence in a sly grog selling case in Oamaru, James gave information on three cases of illegal sale of alcohol.

Maria died on 6 March 1912 and James died in 1920. They are buried in the Andersons Bay Cemetery.
