Biography contributed by Katherine Blakeley

Marion Monahan was born about 1853 in Ayrshire, Scotland – the daughter of Thomas Monahan, a flax dresser, and Jean Shaw.

She married John Dickie, a lithographic printer, in Lanarkshire in 1877.

They had a son in 1880 before they emigrated to Otago on the Caroline in 1883 - four daughters were born in New Zealand, two who died in infancy.

John died at their home in Caversham in 1892 and when Marion signed the suffrage petition she was living in Main Rd, South Dunedin where she ran a shop.

Marion died on 5 December 1917, she is buried with John in the Southern Cemetery.
