Marion Turnbull Whitelaw was born about 1833 in Haddingtonshire, Scotland. She married James Kirkwood Hamilton at Geelong, Australia on 2 March 1857.
Marion and James had two children in Victoria before they emigrated to New Zealand about 1861 and had at least five more children. Her daughter, Jane Hamilton, also signed the petition.
James died at their home in Park St, Kensington in 1894 and Marion died on 10 April 1897. They are buried together in the Southern Cemetery.
