Notes

Marion Andrew/s was born on 22 January 1865 in Torphichen, West Lothian, Scotland — the daughter of Francis Andrew, a coal miner, and Catherine Dobbie. (See 61 Catherine Andrews) Marion emigrated to Otago in 1874, aged nine years, on the Parsee with her three sisters and brother. Her parents and older brother also emigrated in the 1870s.

She married John McKendry/McKendrick , a saw sharpener, on 12 July 1883 at Knox Church, Dunedin.

They had four children and when Marion signed the suffrage petition they were living in Ravensbourne, Dunedin.

Shortly after this Marion started a relationship with Thomas Kellett, a father of four, who divorced his wife in 1901.

Marion and Thomas had a son in 1901 while living in Christchurch. Marion’s children were living with their paternal grandparents in Croydon Siding in Southland at the time, her husband John had disappeared.

Marion married Thomas Kellett in Timaru in 1923. She stated on the marriage certificate that she had not seen or heard of her husband in 29 years.

Marion died at Timaru on 5 January 1942 and Thomas died in Ashburton in 1946, they are buried together in the Timaru Cemetery.
