Biography contributed by Katherine Blakeley

Marion Melville was born in 1866 in New Zealand — the daughter of Andrew Melville, a farmer, and Ellen Ramsay. (See 28 Ellen Melville)

Marion’s family farmed at 'Riverside' near Port Molyneux in South Otago where she signed the suffrage petition.

Marion married Adam Aitkenhead Paterson on 7 October 1896 at First Church, Dunedin.

They had four children and lived in Port Molyneux where Adam, at first, worked as a farmer then as a storekeeper.

They retired to Dunedin where Adam died in 1937 and Marion died on 16 February 1939. They are both buried in the Port Molyneux Cemetery
