Marion Elizabeth Oxford was born about 1860 in England – the daughter of Elizabeth Rebecca Oxford.
She emigrated to New Zealand in the 1870s where she married John Joseph Welsh in 1880.
They had 13 children, one who died in infancy, and when Marion signed the suffrage petition the family were living in Jones St, South Dunedin.
They later moved to Broad Bay on the Otago Peninsula where John died in 1930 and Marion died on 2 August 1950.
They are buried together in the Andersons Bay Cemetery.
