Martha Lemon was born on 10 April 1851 in Tasmania – the daughter of James Lemon and Matilda Read.
She travelled to New Zealand in the late 1870’s where she married William Walter Fisher on 9 August 1880 in Dunedin.
William worked as a starch maker and they had five children.
When Martha signed the suffrage petition the family were living in Forth Street.
William died at Dunedin Hospital in 1911 and Martha died at her daughter’s home on 10 September 1925 – they are buried in the family grave in the Northern Cemetery.
