Martha Mirk was born about 1845, possibly in Scotland.
She married John Haining Geddes, a tailor, in Victoria, Australia in 1867 and they had three children before they sailed for Otago in 1875 on the Omeo.
They had a further two children after their arrival and when Martha signed the suffrage petition the family were living in Spey St, Invercargill.
In later live Martha and John moved back to Victoria where Martha died on 6 March 1926 and John died later that year on 31 July.
They are buried in the Coburg Pine Ridge Cemetery, Victoria.
