Martha Warner Johnston was born in 1862 in New Zealand – the daughter of William Johnston and Sophia Warner.
She married Augustus Thomas, a blacksmith & dredge master, in 1885 and they had four children.
When Martha signed the suffrage petition the family were living in Glenore.
In the 1900s they moved to Dunedin where Augustus died in 1948 and Martha died 12 on July 1950.
They were both cremated and their ashes were scattered.
