Mary Wallace was born on 8 October 1847 in Dysart, Fife, Scotland – the daughter of William Wallace, a grocer, and Mary Husband.
She emigrated to Otago in the 1870s and went to live with her sister near Milton.
Mary married William Aitchison, a widower and farmer, in 1889 and they lived at 'North Branch' near Milton where Mary signed the suffrage petition.
They later moved to live in Milton where Mary died on 14 April 1917 and William died later that year in October, they are buried together in the Fairfax Cemetery, Milton.
