Mary Ann Hall was born about 1868 in Glasgow, Scotland.

She came to New Zealand about 1875 and she married William Scott Alexander, a sawmiller, in 1889.

They had two daughters and when Mary signed the suffrage petition they were living in Hanover St, Dunedin.

Mary died on 8 April 1929 and William died in 1948, they are buried in the family grave in the Southern Cemetery.
