Biography contributed by Katherine Blakeley
Mary Ann Bashford was born about 1848, probably in County Antrim, Ireland – the daughter of William Bashford.
She married James Geddis, a painter, on 26 April 1872 in Belfast and they had two daughters before they emigrated to Otago in 1876 on the Dunedin.
They settled in Dunedin and when Mary signed the suffrage petiton they were living in South Dunedin and James was working as a painter.
Mary died at their home on 13 November 1911 and James died at their daughter’s home in Caversham in 1921 – they are buried together in the Southern Cemetery.
