Biography contributed by Katherine Blakeley

Mary Ann Gunn was born in 1867 in New Zealand – the daughter of Robert Gunn and Elizabeth French.

When she signed the suffrage petition she was living with her family in Russell St, Dunedin with her family working as a bootfitter.

She married William Main Bain, a linesman, in 1900 and they had three children.

William died in 1951 and Mary Ann died on 9 August 1958.

They were both cremated – William’s ashes were scattered and Mary Ann’s ashes were interred in the Gunn family grave in the Southern Cemetery.
