Biography contributed by Katherine Blakeley

Mary Inkster Tait was born in 1862 in New Zealand – the daughter of James Tait, a farmer, and Janet Barber Shields.

She married Frederick William Lawson Bolt, a draper, on 15 June 1892 in Port Molyneux, South Otago and they had two children.

When Mary signed the suffrage petition the family was living in York Place, Dunedin.

They later moved to Christchurch where Mary died on 21 August 1936. Frederick died in 1937, they are buried together in the Bromley Cemetery, Christchurch.
