Biography contributed by Katherine Blakeley

Mary Nolan was born about 1861 in Ireland, she is possibly the Mary who arrived in 1883 on the Trevelyan.

Mary married Albert Edward Charles Burden, a waiter, in 1885 and they had six sons.

When Mary signed the suffrage petition the family were living in Broughton St, South Dunedin.

In 1909 Albert died while working for the NZ Railways, he was cleaning out a gasholder tank when he collapsed and died.

Mary filed a claim for compensation and was awarded £1100.

She re-married in 1914 to Peter O’Reilly, a municipal corporation employee.

Mary died on 7 February 1926, she is buried with Albert in the Southern Cemetery.

Where Peter lived after this is unknown.
