Biography contributed by Katherine Blakeley

Mary Jane Croot was born in 1866 in New Zealand – the daughter of Charles Croot, a storeman, and Elizabeth Pearce.

Her father died in 1876 and when Mary signed the suffrage petition she was living with her family in Grosvenor St, Caversham, Dunedin.

Her sister Eleanor also signed (See 43 Eleanor Croot).

Mary married Andrew Williamson, a carpenter, in 1901 and they had one son.

She died on 28 October 1941 and Andrew died in 1960 – they are buried together in the Andersons Bay Cemetery.
