Biography contributed by Katherine Blakeley
Mary Ann Margaret Williams was born in Hobart, Tasmania on 12 August 1859 – the daughter of William Williams, a carpenter, and Margaret Coster.
She married Edward Thomas Darrell, a sailor and cook from Bermuda, on 11 February 1880 in Hobart.
They had a daughter later that year and travelled to New Zealand soon after where they had a further seven children, including twins.
Edward was declared bankrupt in 1884 while working as a cook and when Mary signed the suffrage petition they were living in Tapanui, South Otago.
Shortly after this Mary and Edward appear to have parted company. Edward went back to Australia and Mary became the 'wife' of Henry William Perry, a moulder.
They had four children together and lived in Roslyn, Dunedin.
Henry died in 1929 and Mary died on 26 December 1932, they are buried in the family grave in the Andersons Bay Cemetery.
