Mary Eliza Bulling and her husband Charles Henry, a house painter from Kent, England were assisted immigrants to Canterbury on the ship Hereford in 1874. Six children, Sarah, Martha, Alice, Fredk, Henry and William immigrated to New Zealand with Charles and Mary.

Mary Eliza Bulling’s husband Charles Henry Bulling died on 28 June 1892, aged 66 at their Huxley Street, Sydenham home.

The 1905/6 Christchurch South electoral roll records Mary Eliza Bulling as living at Walton Street, Sydenham and her occupation was listed as widow.

Mary Eliza Bulling died on 19 January 1909, aged 78 and is buried at Addington Cemetery.
