Mary McGrath was born about 1845 in Tipperary, Ireland.
She married Thomas McGrath in 1871. They had three children before they emigrated to Otago in 1879 on the Blair Drummond.
Their youngest child died shortly after their arrival and a daughter was born in 1881.
They settled in Waikouaiti, north of Dunedin, where Mary signed the suffrage petition and Thomas worked as a ploughman.
Mary died at their home on February 15th 1900 and Thomas died in Dunedin in 1935. They are buried together in the Waikouaiti Cemetery.
