Mary Carmichael was born about 1838 in Scotland.
She came to New Zealand and she married David Farquharson, a miner, on 24 March 1870 in the Waikouaiti parish.
They had four children and when Mary signed the suffrage petition the family were living in Livingstone in North Otago.
David died at Livingstone in 1904, he is buried in the Livingstone Cemetery.
Mary died on 28 November 1918 at her home in Dunedin, she is buried in the Southern Cemetery.
